Starting over...

COMMENTS ON THIS BLOG ARE OPEN TO ALL. I Fixed It Bill, and Rusty!
Man what a headache this has been. As soon as I get my income tax back, I am going to have this 'Puter optimized and cleaned up and the partition moved, and the superfluous crap deleted off, and then I should Sail along here.

This is the first posting of a new blog, as it appears that my old one was screwed up. Haloscan was who hosted my comments, and I seem to be blocked from them. I can not see my comments, nor can I see any of yours if you use Haloscan for your comments also. I tried to switch to blogger comments, but for some reason, It will not update. SInce I know NOTHING about creating CSS or RSS and just a SMIDGEON of HTML, I thought I would go right back to the very beginning, That's a very fine place to start...

I will be getting pictures put up as soon as I get Hello configured for this blog. Now the challenge will be to see how many people show up on this site!!

I spent the better part of today fighting with this damn machine. I finally got a call that my laptop is ready. Bob fixed my Laptop for me for Christmas. SO I came home and scrounged up a telephone line and hooked up my laptop. Yep works just fine. Slow, but works. SO I tried to open my blog and the same thing happens. I can see the blog, not the comments, and no comments on your blogs either.

Since the two machines are not connected in any way whatsoever, I assumed that it was the only 3 common denominators...ISOMEDIA my service provider; Haloscan itself, or my phone line.

It cant be my phone line. scratch that. SO then I call ISOMEDIA, and the guy on the help desk could not get to haloscan.com either. AHA!!!! So I think it has to be haloscan that has blocked ISOMEDIA's IP for some reason or another. anyway, I can not contact haloscan to ask them because I am BLOCKED. so until I get fixed, I will be over here. Maybe...

If I can get this to work.

I did read most of you tonight though.

Well the first thing I am going to do is change that GAWDAWFUL color!!

Sure sounds like you've figured out the problem. Probably someone spamming people on ISOMEDIA got the IP blocked, so now no one can use Haloscan.

BTW, I love the color!!! In fact, I think this new blog looks really sharp! :)

    ARRRGGGGHHHH! my eyes!

Previously your comment readers could read your comments okay. They are currently missing however.

It would seem reasonable that INCOMING data to your machine is blocked, because everyone else could see your comments. It's probable that Isomedia is doing it or your OWN firewall. Be sure to check for "banned" IP ranges or addresses in your firewall configuration... I did this onetime to myself because one of the content providers (photos) keep trying to access my machine on port 53 which is usually reserved for DNS servers ie the domain name phone book.

But if the ISP guy couldn't access Haloscan from his machine, either, the problem couldn't just be on Mary Lou's computer. More likely someone using Isomedia got the IP number blocked by Haloscan, don'tcha think?

Wow, when you do research, you do it well! Maybe these comments won't be too bad.

What a frustrating day! Good for you for starting over and trying to rule out everything that might be the problem. You've got far more patience than I. It takes more than a blocked IP to keep a good woman down. : )

What a complete gong show, but I gotta say, better you than me. Since my computer is already an ass, I don't know if I could cope with Haloscan or anything else giving me grief.

(Speaking of evil computers, the one I'm using at work has currently shut down its data processing software, so I get to screw the pooch and read blogs for the next half hour. Yay me!)

Well good Lord, but at least you found a work around!!! Glad to have you back at least partially.

I was thinking about going with that haloscan for my comments but now I think I'll keep things nice and simple.

I tried to follow all of that but just reading what you went through frustrated me. Suffice it to say, I found you here and have you bookmarked for wherever you end up. Nothing like puters to keep us humble

    What jimbob said.
I'm kinda wondering how one's firewalls work myself. How does one find that out? Do I even have a firewall?
See, I'm no better off than you are. But at least we can comment now!
I kind of like this new color. It's rather soothing.

Does Phyllis use a different ISP than you do?

You might even be able to import all your old entries into your new blog.

Yippee, Mary Lou. You got it fixed. OK, now I want to know about your weather, what animals you've seen in your yard, and to give you a new years hug. Yes, get that 'puter fixed; I bought myself an electric throw today on sale--that was my present to myself.

Sounds like ISOMEDIA has the problem and you should keep bugging them until they fix it. Make them contact Haloscan for problem resolutions.

Puters are a pain in the pass sometimes aren't they?

Some of the tech help centers are pretty much a 50-50 deal Leigh.

If they didn't know how to work the problem, they aren't gonna tell Mary Lou they have no idea what's wrong. So they go through a pointless hoop jumping exercise. A distinct possibility the tech help center isn't on the North American continent! I think they current blog color was a reflection of the color of Mary Lou's face from the past few days! ;-) ;-)
